Wado-ryu Karate

Wado-ryu Karate, founded by Hironori Ohtsuka in 1934, is a blend of traditional Okinawan karate and jujutsu. Ohtsuka combined his training in Shindo Yoshin-ryu jujutsu with his study under Gichin Funakoshi, the founder of Shotokan karate, to create Wado-ryu. It emphasizes evasion, redirection, and fluid movement over brute force. Over the years, Wado-ryu has evolved and spread globally, maintaining its focus on practical self-defense techniques while incorporating elements of Japanese philosophy and culture. Today, it's practiced by thousands worldwide and continues to influence modern martial arts.
